PREBLE COUNTY — The Preble County District Library will host a Family Game Night next week.
All ages are welcome to the West Elkton Library on Monday, Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. for family game night. We’ll have board games and Nintendo Wii video games to play.
The Eaton Library will have a monthly Lego program when school-age children can build, complete challenges, or just have fun. It will meet the last Monday of each month from 4-5 p.m. The first program is Monday, Aug. 28 at 4 p.m.
Children can use the library’s Lego collection. If you bring Legos from home, please bring them in a container labeled with your child’s name.
Eaton Library Story Time Registration
Registration for fall story times at the Eaton Library starts Friday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. Story times will run from Oct. 4 through Nov. 9. There are several sessions available for different age groups from 6 months to 12 years old. Story times will be held weekly. Call 937-456-4331 with any questions or to register.
Register for Tween Filmmakers Club
The next session of Tween Filmmakers Club (ages 8-12) will run from 4:15-5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays from Sept. 6 through Oct. 4 at the Eaton Library. Kids will work together to create a script, props, and costumes. Then they’ll film and edit their own short movie! Registration is open now, so be sure to get to the Eaton Library or call 937-456-4331 to sign up for the Filmmakers Club.
This unicorn party will be rich in rainbows and pizzazz, as we celebrate one of the most magical and majestic creatures to (n)ever walk the Earth at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 3:30 p.m.
Glitter will be provided. Program is for teens in grades 6-12.
For teens in grades 6-12: use patterns or create your own design with perler beads. We’ll build our designs, then heat the beads to join them together permanently. This program will travel around to library branches. All supplies provided by the library. Call ahead to register for the program to ensure your library has enough supplies.

Introductory Computer Programming
The Eaton Library is hosting a series of classes each Wednesday in August. Each session is 60-90 minutes, and you’ll learn the basics of programming using the Python language. Later sessions will touch on advanced topics like game development, mobile app development, and creating a website. No prior programming experience is necessary. The classes are open to anyone 13 and older. It’s preferred that you bring your own laptop, but there will be some extra laptops available for use during each session.
Catch the class on Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 starting at 6 p.m.
Creative Writing Group
Do you like to write? Want some feedback on your writing? The next meeting of the Eaton Library Creative Writers’ Group is Thursday, Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m. If you have a written piece you would like to share, please bring it to the meeting. You will not be expected to share but you are certainly welcome to do so! Writing activities and prompts will be provided for those who need a little extra inspiration.
West Elkton Book Club
Book lovers: come to the West Elkton Library on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. to discuss F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
Bible Records Scan Day
Do you have an old family Bible laying around? Bring it to the Preble County Room on Saturday, Sept. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We’ll scan the genealogical records from your Bible and add those digital images to the Preble County Room genealogical archives for future researchers. In exchange for your donation, you’ll take those digital records home either on your USB flash drive, or we can email the images to you. The Preble County Room is located at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton.
Get ready to fill your bookshelves in September. The West Elkton Library’s book sale will be Sept. 4, 6, and 7 (1-6 p.m. each day).
The Eaton Library will have its book sale Sept. 9-16 during regular library hours (9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday; Closed Sunday). Book sales are by donation only, so take what you want and give as much as you can! All proceeds go back into the West Elkton and Eaton library branches.
Ohio Author Month in September
The Eaton Library is celebrating area authors through September with books by Ohio authors on display and four author visits scheduled. Every Wednesday, catch a different local author for a talk at the Eaton Library. Ohio Author Month is funded in part by a grant through the State Library of Ohio with funds from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services. Here’s the schedule:
Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.: Ryan Ireland, author of two novels who lives in Alpha, Ohio.
Sept. 13 at 6 p.m.: Tim Waggoner, author of nearly 40 novels and professor at Sinclair Community College.
Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.: Herbert Martin, professor of English and poet-in-residence at the University of Dayton for over three decades.
Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.: C.V. Hunt, author of nine books. There will be a drawing for one of Hunt’s books at the event.
