Your Library Turns 60 Years Old in December

The Preble County District Library is celebrating its 60th year serving Preble County as a district library system. Visit us at our branch open houses to celebrate!

– West Manchester Branch: Wednesday, Dec. 11, from noon-6 p.m., Holiday Open House — scavenger hunt, games, food, and hot drinks.

– Eldorado Branch: Thursday, Dec. 12, from noon-6 p.m.: Holiday Open House — scavenger hunt, games, food, and hot drinks.

– West Elkton Branch: Thursday, Dec. 12, at 4 p.m.: make a classic sled ornament and enjoy refreshments.

– Eaton Branch: Thursday, Dec. 12, at 5:30 p.m.: Holiday Open House – live music by Dave Sams, refreshments, and prize drawings.

– Camden Branch: Monday, Dec. 16, from noon-8 p.m.: Enjoy a festive treat and sign up to win a gift basket.

– Preble County Genealogy Room: Thursday, Dec. 19, from 6-8 p.m.: Holiday Open House – Visit for punch, cookies, other snacks & refreshments, enter for a chance to win an AncestryDNA© test, and learn about area resources.

Kids Craft: Christmas Bazaar – Camden Branch

Dec. 17, at 5:30 p.m.: come to the library for a super fun evening of crafting! Children will make several Christmas crafts to take home. All materials provided.

Families: Snowman Ornament Craft – West Manchester/Eldorado Branches

Dec. 18, at 4:30 p.m. at the West Manchester Branch and Dec. 19, at the Eldorado Branch: Come in and warm up with a cute snowman ornament craft. Feel free to bring a friend!

Holiday Craft and Story – New Paris Branch

Dec. 16, at 4 p.m.: Join us at the New Paris Library for a sweet holiday craft and story!

Monthly Family Board Game Night – New Paris Branch

Visit the library on the last Tuesday of each month 5:00 p.m. to play board games and enjoy a snack!

Tween-tivities: Traveling Kits – Various Branches

Use one of our traveling tween kits during January 2020! Each month, we’ll have something new available to explore. Kits may include building challenges, stop-motion animation, vlogging, crafting, and more!

Tween-tivities: Movie Night (Aladdin, PG) – Eaton Branch

Jan. 8, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.: January can be chilly… warm up in the city of Agrabah! Tween-tivities will be having a movie night. Ages 8-12 are welcome to join us for free popcorn and a screening of the 2019 Live Action Aladdin film!

Teens (grades 6-12)

Weekly Teen Programs at the Eaton Library

On Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m., teens in grades 6-12 can come to the Eaton Library to enjoy activities such as coloring and simple crafting, board games, video games, and more! These programs are designed to be self-led. Just drop by any time from 3:30-5 p.m., sign in, and have fun!

Unity – Monthly Teen Group

Dec. 16, at 4 p.m. at the Eaton Branch: join us for the LGBTQ+ teen group… Unity! This meeting is a safe space, open to local teens (including allies!) in grades 6-12. Join us for open discussion, as well as resources and information. The group will build objectives and goals, meeting agendas, future programming ideas, and more! Teen Book Club – December

Dec. 17, at 3:30 p.m. at the Eaton Branch: The Teen Book Club selection for the month of December will be Running out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix! Sign up in advance to receive a free copy of the book to read before the program!

Scavenger Hunt for Teens – Camden/New Paris/West Alexandria Branches

Participate in a month-long Scavenger Hunt with the Goose Chase app! Use your library’s device to compete against other branches by solving riddles, taking pictures, and completing challenges. Missions will update throughout the month, so stop back to earn more points for your team! Teens with the app on their own device can request a password from their librarian to join the team, as well.

Teen Book Club – January

Quick Tech Questions with Emily – Eaton Branch

Jan. 9 & 13, 2020 at 5 p.m.: Got a quick question about your device but don’t need to book an appointment for help? Drop in and see Emily the reference librarian at the Eaton Library! First come, first serve. This program, like all PCDL programs, is free to attend. No registration needed.

Adult Craft: Mason Jar String Light – Camden Branch

Jan. 9, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.: Come to the Camden Library to create a beautiful Mason Jar string light craft. All supplies will be provided by the library. Registration required by December 30th, for this free program. Register in person starting December 12th, or by calling 937-452-3142.

Relaxation Station: Cocoa and Coloring – Eaton Branch

Jan. 16 & 30, 2020 at 6 p.m.: join us at the library during the long winter evenings for some hot cocoa (or coffee, if you wish) and some coloring, all set to relaxing music!

Creative Writers’ Group – Eaton Branch

Meets every fourth Friday of the month at 3:30 p.m. at the Eaton Branch: If you have a written piece you would like to share, please bring it to the meeting. You will not be expected to share, but you are certainly welcome to do so! Writing activities and prompts will be provided for those who need a little extra inspiration.

Homeschool

Homeschool Hour: Winter Watercolor – Eaton Branch

Jan. 15 & 22, 2020 at 3:30 p.m.: Practice different watercolor techniques to make your own work of art. This program is open to home educated children of all ages. This program is open to home-educated students of all ages. Please register in advance at the library or by calling 937-456-4331.

Free Homework Help Club – Eaton Branch

The Eaton Branch of the Preble County District Library would like to introduce our Homework Help Club! This program provides FREE homework help to students in grades K-6th. Drop-ins are welcome! No registration required! Tutors will be available to assist in homework in a variety of subjects. This program is available from 4PM to 6PM each Monday. PCDL MakerSpace Open Hours – Eaton Branch

Maker Space Open Hours: Every Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eaton Branch: The Maker Space is a room full of new technology with open access to all ages. All equipment and assistance is free. Bring your own consumables, such as fabric and paper. Some materials can be purchased for a fee. Other dates and times available by appointment. Homebound Delivery Services – Library materials delivered to you!

Preble County District Library provides free delivery of library materials to Preble County residents who are unable to get to a library branch. We deliver books, movies, music, and more to private residences. Any Preble County resident who is unable to leave their home, either for long-term or short-term periods is eligible. Contact the library’s Outreach Coordinator at 937-456-4376 to sign up or for more information.

Book a Librarian – Your Branch

Every Wednesday (by appointment) at the Eaton Branch or your branch: Would you like to learn more about computers? Do you have a new tablet or smartphone you’d like to learn more about? The Reference Librarian is happy to help with tablets/e-readers, computers, Microsoft Office, Internet, resumes and job searching, using the library catalog, and research. Meeting Rooms for Non-Profits – Eaton & Eldorado Branches

Free Public Notary – Library Admin. Office

Preble County District Public Library provides basic Notary Public services at 450 S. Barron St., Eaton, such as witnessing signatures and sworn statements, free of charge for the convenience of our community. Visit www.preblelibrary.org
