PREBLE COUNTY — The Preble County District Library has announced the following programming for the month of August:
New: Weekly Storytimes
The New Paris Branch offers weekly in-person storytimes for kids of all ages. Our storytimes are formulated around Every Child Ready to Read initiative, focusing on the five early literacy practices of reading, singing, playing, talking, and writing.

Our Fall Book Sale is back at the Camden Branch during the library’s open hours. Arrive early for the best selection of fiction, nonfiction, young adult, children’s books, CDs, and DVDs. There are no set prices, and all sales are through donation only. Grab as much as you want and give as much as you can. All funds raised support the library.
New: Coffee, Books and More! – Eaton Branch on Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 6 p.m.
Join us for our monthly book discussion group! Rather than reading one book and sharing our thoughts about it, this is a chance for you to tell everyone about what you’re reading and what you think of it. Meetings will include short book descriptions, discussion questions, book recommendations, and – most importantly – coffee! We will meet on the second Tuesday of every month.
New: Stuffed Animal Sleepover – Eaton Branch on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m.
It’s that time of year again when your stuffed animals get free rein of the library! For one night only, kids will drop off their stuffed animals at the library for an overnight adventure! They’ll hear a story, have a nighttime snack, complete a craft, and let their stuffed animal spend the night at the Eaton Branch. Families can pick up their stuffed animals and a book about their adventures the next day.
Children of all ages can come dressed in pajamas as they drop off their stuffed animals!
Stuffed Animal Pickup: Families can pick up their plush friends on Friday, Aug.12, beginning at 10 a.m. *Make sure not to bring the animal your child sleeps with, as it will be at the library all night.
New: Social Stitch – Eaton Branch on Monday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m.
Do you enjoy activities such as knitting, crocheting, or embroidery? Please bring your own fiber arts project and join us for drop-in style meetings on the third Monday of each month. We provide a casual atmosphere (and refreshments!) for collective crafting. All skill levels are welcome! While this program is open to adults, it is geared towards our Emerging Adults, 18 to 30-year-olds.
New: Digital Library Resources: An Introduction – Eaton Branch on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 1:45 p.m.
Want to know more about checking out e-books through the library, accessing digital music and movies, or the wealth of information you can find in our databases? Come to this session and have the Reference Librarian walk you through the library’s digital resources.
Bring the device(s) you will most likely access those resources on; laptops will be available at the library.
New: Guitar Around the World – Eaton Branch on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 6 p.m.
Experience the guitar as you never have. This program is for those obsessed with or just interested in the guitar, for music enthusiasts and historians alike. This presentation unfolds the ancestry, evolution and development of the guitar across continents and over centuries. From its surprising roots to its eventual migration to Southern Spain, The Americas, and the world today, the guitar has fascinated music lovers for centuries.
Keith Lykins will exhibit the role the guitar, and some of its ancestors played throughout the ages. We will also explore the guitar’s cultural and artistic influences and how the instrument has changed over time due to the culture surrounding it.
Enjoy an evening of music from centuries-old Eastern Europe, Flamenco Guitar, Classical Guitar, Fingerstyle Guitar and even a little Rock and Roll.
New: Lord of the Rings Appreciation Program – Eaton Branch on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m.
Speak friend and enter! Join us for an evening of all things LOTR as we appreciate the books & movies for the masterpieces they are and prepare for the upcoming Ring of Power series. Bring your fellowship to the library, where we’ll have themed snacks, trivia, activities, and more! Feel free to come in costume*, or maybe just your favorite LOTR shirt.
This program is geared toward adults.
*Actual weapons and other items considered dangerous by PCDL are prohibited. All costumes should follow the library’s code of conduct: no nudity or offensive language.
