Third graders learn about soil

NEW PARIS — The National Trail MVCTC FFA Chapter recently hosted each of the third grade classes and taught them about soil.

Eric Kennel’s Greenhouse Management class taught the third graders about soil horizons, plant germination, and allowed the students the opportunity to plant seeds in the greenhouse.

The FFA members organized each of the hands on stations for the students to participate in. First, the students made edible soil profiles using different puddings and crushed cookies to signify different layers within the soil content.

The third graders received a plastic bag that contained seeds for each student to water daily and watch the seeds start to sprout.

National Trail MVCTC FFA members look forward to this activity each year. FFA members were responsible for organizing each activity and planning the day with Mr. Hampton.
