Vancrest celebrates Snake Day

EATON — Vancrest Health Care Center took time on Monday, July 16, to celebrate World Snake Day with staff and residents. Activity Director Karen Smith said she invited Safari Junction out to the nursing home to provide a fun and interesting day for the residents.

“We have local businesses come in as often as I can. We have [Safari Junction] come in at least six times a year,” Smith said. “Residents like animals. They interact with animals well. It is calming and they like all animals.”

“Oddly enough, the ladies love the snake, but the men are scared of the snake,” she said. “We’ve had more ladies interact with the snake and the men not so much. I didn’t even know World Snake Day existed, but when I saw it was I reached out to Safari Junction to plan this program. The zoo is really one-on-one with my residents and really interact well with them.”
