PREBLE COUNTY — Preble County Veteran Services will host its next trip to Washington, D.C. Thursday, May 16- Saturday, May 18. The theme: Heroes Remembered. There are still a dozen seats available for anyone interested in traveling with the group.
The group will travel via motor coach. Any veteran and his or her spouse who would like to accompany the group on this journey is encouraged to stop by the Veteran Services office in Eaton and pre-register.
Aptly named a “Voyage of Remembrance,” the last Preble County Veteran Services bus trip to the nation’s capital was taken in September 2017. The group took 28 Preble County veterans to visit the memorials built in their honor. The busload of veterans, local dignitaries and chaperones was the first such voyage hosted by Preble County Veteran Services since 2013. It was the fifth trip in the past decade.
The tour included a visit to the Capitol building, a tour of all the memorials, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, and more. For many on the journey it was chance to make new friends, rekindle old friendships and share stories with one another. For the veterans who go, the trip is a journey they have earned and for many it will bring closure and peace, according to Veteran Services Officer Terry Pendergraft.
Preble County Veteran Services plans such trips to show local veterans their sacrifices are appreciated.
Many of the veterans who have taken the trip encourage any fellow veterans who have not taken advantage of the Preble County Veterans Services’ tours to do so.
The cost of the trip is $350 per person. The bus only holds 56 people, so space is limited and seating is provided on a first-come first-served basis.
Payment is required at the time of registration.
