16th annual health fair held

EATON — The Preble County YMCA held its annual health fair on Thursday, Sept. 19, as a way to get the community connected to services available in the area.

According to Becky Morin, Membership Director at the Preble County YWCA, this is 16th year the event has been held. This year, they had 52 vendors and over 270 people attend the event.

There were various booths set up in the YMCA gym, allowing for attendees to check their “numbers” — from blood sugar to blood pressure, as well as get information from different medical organizations represented at the fair. This year, there were also booths dedicated to a more holistic approach, including hypnotism.

“I think it is a huge success and I’m really excited about it,” Morin said. “This is a free service to our community. They do not have to be a member [of the YMCA]. It is getting them the screenings they need. We have actually had to send people to the hospital from their cholesterol or blood sugar screenings. It is saving people’s lives. With all the vendors here, that is what this is about. We want them to get out there and be healthy for themselves.”

Vendors included: Associates in Healing, Dayton Children’s Hospital, Dayton Sports Medicine Institute, Community Tissue Services, Essence of Wellness, Eye Center of Richmond, Gebhart Counseling Solutions, LLC, Greenbriar Senior Living Campus, Herbal Reflexsions, H.I.T. Foundation, Kettering Health Network, Life Connection of Ohio, Lions Eye Bank of West Central Ohio, Maple Gardens, Medflight, Medicare Resource Center, Pathways to Positive Change, Preble County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Preble County Chamber of Commerce, Preble County Council on Aging, Preble County District Library, Preble County General Health District, Preble County Safety Council, Pure Relief, Reflexology by Kristin, Samaritan Behavioral Health, Simon Financial Services, Summit Chiropractic, Vancrest, Vitas Healthcare, Walgreens, West Alexandria EMS, YDPP, YMCA, YWCA, and 2020 Census.

“I think it is important to share what we offer here. People don’t know what all we have in our community and here at the YMCA. I think, the YMCA with us being a health organization, it is very important for us to partner with all of the vendors here. We have great partnerships with everyone here,” Morin said.
