Eaton board recognizes FFA students, athletes

EATON — The Eaton Community School Board of Education recognized FFA students and fall/winter sports athletes during its meeting on Monday, April 12.

The board recognized the FFA Novice Parliamentary Procedure Team which finished first place Sub District, first place District and second place State, consisting of Katie Bryant, Mac Dare, Delaney Deaton, Lydia Eilerman, Jada Elam, Jacob Erbaugh, Erica Nerderman, Joselynn Nerderman and Morgan White.

Also recognized was the FFA Advanced Parliamentary Procedure Team which finished first place Sub District, first place District and fifth place State, consisting of Morgan Dare, Mallory Deaton, Madison Edwards, Sonja Friend, Kendale Hamilton, Tyler Laycox, Tiara Miles, Haley Roberts and Madeline Wright.

Madison Edwards, secretary, and Kendale Hamilton, treasurer, were both recognized for having Gold Rated Officer Books, and the following students were recognized for receiving their State FFA Degrees: Morgan Dare, Mallory Deaton, Kendale Hamilton, Tiara Miles, Madeline Wright and Abigail Wysong.

The board also recognized Owen Hewitt, a state wrestling qualifier, and Carson Shafer, who was named OHSAA Division IV Second Team in football.

In other business

As part of the adoption of consent agenda items, the board approved a resolution supporting the Fair School Finding Plan as part of House Bill 1, which plans to create a new school financing system for FY 2022 and beyond.

The board approved the creation and posting of a new certified position for an art teacher with a required art therapy minor and/or certification.

The board also entered into executive sessions to consider the employment of a public employee or official, to discuss details relative to the security arrangements and emergency response protocols for the board of education and to prepare for negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees.

The next Eaton Community School Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at Hollingsworth East Elementary.
