Tails and Tales – Summer Reading 2021 – Earn Prizes by Reading
Are you looking to have a paws-itively fun summer? Sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge at your local PCDL branch starting June 1 to get some loot:
Kids ages 12 and under will receive a tote bag (first 250 to sign up), temporary tattoo, bookmark, and other goodies.
Teens grades 6-12 will receive a pull string bag and bookmark.
Plus, kids and teens earn a prize and tickets after logging four, eight, and 12 hours read! Earn more tickets for completing fun activities. Turn in your tickets for the chance to win all kinds of wild prizes like the ones below.
Adults will read books, listen to music, or watch a movie, and then write a review. The more you write, the more chances you’ll have to win! There will be adult prize drawings at each branch on June 22-23. There will be a final adult prize drawing at the end of Summer Reading.
West Alexandria Library kids will be able to adopt a stuffed animal when they sign up for Summer Reading at the W. Alex Branch. Each pet comes with a book made by Miss Kathy and an official adoption paper.
Sign ups starting June 1. Visit www.preblelibrary.beanstack.org/ for your one-stop place to register, log time, earn badges, and turn in tickets for prizes! Stop by or contact your closest branch for more information or for help signing up!
But wait, there’s more: Grab and Go Kits are available all summer for kids, teens, and adults at all PCDL Branches. There will also be Outdoor Family Storytimes throughout the summer and weekly programming will be available. Visit www.preblelibrary.org/events to view the schedule of events.
June Teen Book Club – Seafire by Natalie C. Parker – June 29 at 4 p.m.
Welcome back to Teen Book Club! Grades 6+ can request a free copy from their branch here: http://bit.ly/pcdltbc. Read the book and join us on June 29th at 4:00pm outside of the Eaton Branch for a discussion!
Some snacks are provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own.
Our discussions are casual. You’re not being graded. There is no right or wrong answer. There is no pressure to have everything understood and figured out before you arrive at Book Club. It’s okay if you didn’t like the book or didn’t ‘get’ the book. Different perspectives make discussion more fun!
Our Summer meetings are taking place outside in the grass. Wear sunblock/bug spray if needed, bring a blanket or chair if you like, and be prepared for cancellation if the weather is bad.
If you are unable to make it to the meeting, please let us know in advance. You can still post a review on GoodReads ( http://bit.ly/tbcresponses ) to discuss it with other teens!
Live Music with Keith Lykins – July 29 at 6 p.m. – Eaton Branch Library
After a long year, we are slowly working our way back to live programming – and what better way to do so than with a concert by Keith Lykins?
Keith Lykins’s music could best be compared to Michael Hedges, Tommy Emmanuel and Andy McKee. Keith is a fingerstyle guitarist, an instrumentalist, a one-man band, a singer-songwriter, and a consummate entertainer. To learn more about Keith, visit www.keithlykins.com.
This outdoor concert will be held in the grassy area behind the Eaton Library. Please bring your own chairs and blankets and prepare for the outdoors by bringing sunscreen, bug spray, etc. Rain date is Thursday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m.
LEGO Club on Zoom – June 28 at 4:30 p.m.
Grab your bricks and log on to join some friends as we complete some fun challenges with LEGOs during this 30-minute program! We will be connecting via Zoom for this virtual LEGO Club meeting to keep it easier to socialize with each other.
TO REGISTER: Send an email to email@example.com and you will be emailed a Zoom link on the day of the program.
