LEWISBURG — During its meeting on Monday, April 18, theTri-County North Board of Education discussed summer activities, student testing, and more.

Athletic Director Tony Augspurger recognized Rilee Terry for being a District 15 Division IV Player of the Year in basketball. Augspurger also brought attention to coach Jessica Spitler who was recognized for the District 15 and AP All Southwest District Division IV Coach of the Year in basketball.

Augspurger reminded the board of several events coming up with the new track and field and thanked the board. “I’m obviously biased in terms of the importance athletics can play in a school community, but I see no way this isn’t going to be a great thing for Tri-County North.”

In their reports, K-4 Principal Joe Finkbine, grades 5-8 principal Joe Hoelzle, and grades 9-12 principal Kristin Mills said the students were undergoing state testing. They voiced their appreciation for all the teachers, staff, and students during testing week, and noted there was more testing to come for some grade levels.

Also recognized was Jennifer Corder, a teacher and coordinator, who was nominated for the Dayton Regional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) Education Leadership and Service Award. Corder won the award and received $1,500 donated to the school in her honor, which can be spent on more STEM-related projects and activities.

The board passed a resolution to accept donations including monetary assistance from Pat Keith and Sandy Ressier to help cover the cost of the fourth grade Wilderness Ridge trip, and monetary donations from Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dewey and an anonymous donor for the Jackson Dale Ferguson Memorial Scholarship.

The school’s mental health services contract will be provided by Gebhart Counseling Solutions LLC. motion was passed. The board approved a contract for GCS to provide certain services specified in the agreement. The students will have access to these services, which board members feel are in the best interest of the students’ mental health.

The board discussed the topics of summer intervention, summer camps and activities like basketball and band camps for the summer. Summer intervention will take place on days conflicting with some of the camps. Board members noted, some of the activities will most likely be getting new dates so students may attend both and not have to choose between summer intervention and other activities. A separate but related motion was accepted approving certified personnel for summer school in supplemental-like positions.

The board also approved motions to dispose of items the school no longer uses, including some textbooks and a piano. This will be done at the discretion of the superintendent.

Other items approved by the board were for administrative personnel including the re-employment of pre-K-4 principal Joe Finkbine, Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development Lisa Galpin, Director of Transportation, Buildings, & Grounds, Maintenance and Food Service Denny Dyer, and approval to employ Preschool Teacher Rebekah Foust.

The board’s next meeting will be on Monday, May 16.
