EATON — On Monday, Aug. 29, Preble County Commissioners met with representatives of the Preble County Park District Board to discuss the Devil’s Backbone Park.
PCPD Executive Director Mindy Davidson explained all of the progress already made at the park, including the sign at the entrance. There are temporary trash cans, some fencing, some signs, and the trails are also complete.
However, Devil’s Backbone is far from where the park district would like to see it, according to the PCPD Board. They are still waiting to add benches, picnic tables, an entrance gate, restrooms and more.
Park District Commissioner Kaylee Jo Lebo noted, “Our biggest thing is a master plan. We’d like to start working on a master plan so that we can get together what we want to do with the park and also be able to go for fundraising or you know, other businesses and stuff like that — to be able to fund raise to get where we need the park to be.”
Unlike the park district’s other site, Garber Park located in Lewisburg, there is no funding for Devil’s Backbone. The park district asked commissioners for assistance in funding the creation of a master plan. The estimated quote for the master plan was just under $50,000.
The Preble County Commissioners agreed to give the park district the money for the project, but requested documents for the PCPD’s operating expenses and other necessary information before providing the funding.
