Camden hosts Christmas in the Village

CAMDEN — The Village of Camden kicked off the holiday season with its annual Christmas in the Village celebration, hosted at the Bicentennial Park across from the fire station on Friday, Nov. 25, as the sun went down and the air grew wintry.

Pastor Greg Jackson of The First Southern Baptist Church in Camden, also known as The Corner of Hope, led the celebration with a reading of the Christmas story from the Book of Luke, followed by caroling. The evening concluded with the arrival of Santa, who was responsible for turning on the decorative lights in the park.

“There’s been a lot of work going into what you’re about to see in a few minutes, so thank the workers when you see them!” Jackson stated, proclaiming Camden was about to have a “Hallmark moment.”

According to Camden Village Council member Debbie Hickman, it was the village’s first time hosting the event, with Camden Comeback having organized it for the previous four years, excluding a year due to the pandemic.

Among the classic Christmas tunes sung by the carolers were Silent Night, Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, Oh Come Let Us Adore Him, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town as Santa arrived.

The event was well attended, with Mayor Toni Keesler handing out hot chocolate for attendees.
