EHS to get new roof

EATON —Eaton High School will have a new roof installed over the summer break, at a cost not to exceed $643,000.

During a Monday, May 9, board of education meeting, Eaton Community School Board members passed a resolution declaring “an urgent necessity” to enter an agreement to replace the roof.

Due to hail damage, “a new roof is required to ensure the safety of all students, staff members and other community members,” according to the resolution.

Because of the timing of the issue, and the time which would be incurred in going through a competitive bid process, time which officials noted “could cause the project to not be finished before the start of the 2016-17 school year, leaving the district vulnerable to exposing students, staff members, and other community members to a potentially dangerous condition at the high school.”

By declaring the urgent necessity, Eaton BOE was able to enter into a contract with BK Contracting for the high school replacement project, after getting estimates but without going through a formal competitive bidding process.

Also during the meeting, BOE members:

•Approved a resolution issuing bonds in a principal amount not to exceed $22,005,000.

•Recognized Eric Silverman as recipient of the Southwest Ohio Athletic Directors Association’s Horizon Award.

•Approved resignations of 9th grade basketball cheerleading advisor Heather Green and middle school football coach Tim Holland ending with the current school year.

•Approved the hiring of new teachers Sara Morris and Lauren DuVall for the 2016-17 year, as well as Laura Cano as school psychologist.
