Stupp leads North to 51-42 win over Northeastern

SPRINGFIELD — Tri-County North’s girls’ basketball team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 51-42 win over host Springfield Northeastern on Monday, Dec. 5.

The Panthers were led by freshman Aubrey Stupp, who scored 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had seven steals, five assists and blocked two shots.

North jumped out to a 12-9 lead after the opening quarter and led the rest of the way. The Panthers extended their lead to 23-17 by halftime.

Northeastern closed the gap to two points, 36-34, by the end of the third quarter, but North outscored the Jets 15-8 over the final eight minutes.

Cassie Stinson added 15 points, two steals, five rebounds and three assists for North and Megan Poling chipped in with eight points.

The Panthers were scheduled to play at Eaton on Monday, Dec. 12, for their sixth straight away contest to start the season. North is scheduled to play its first home game on Saturday, Dec. 17, when rival Twin Valley South comes to Lewisburg.

After Saturday, North will be on the road for its next three games at Dixie on Monday, Dec. 19, at Arcanum on Dec. 22 and at Franklin-Monroe on Jan. 5.
