EATON — The Eaton Middle School 8th grade volleyball team ended its season with a perfect record.
The Lady Eagles finished the season 18-0. This accomplishment in itself is exceptional, but the team also finished its 7th grade year with a perfect season — 17-0.
The team’s combined middle school record was 35-0.
Not only did these players accomplish a perfect record, they have never lost a set. They beat every opponent in two sets during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
“This speaks volumes to the talent on this team,” Coach Mandy Jerdon said.
The team defended its Quad Conference Tournament Champion title at a tournament the Eagles hosted in September, having also won the championship title as seventh graders. The Eagles defeated Twin Valley South in tournament play 25-4 and 25-11. The Eagles went on to defeat Talawanda in the championship game, 25-18 and 25-10.
The Lady Eagles earned back-to-back SWBL Championship honors as well. The Eagles received the Number 1 seed, giving them a bye in the first round of tournament play.
In the second round, the Eagles defeated Brookville 25-9 and 25-20. In the semi-finals, the Lady Eagles took on the Valley View Spartans. In a hard fought match, the Eagles came out on top, 25-14 and 25-19, to advance to the finals.
The Eaton Eagles faced the Bellbrook Golden Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 13. Eaton faced this same match-up last year in the championship game. Eaton dominated the first set 25-12. The second set was a strong showing by both Eagles teams; however, the Eaton Eagles came out on top, 25-23.
“The ladies on this team not only demonstrate strong leadership, grit, and volleyball game play, but they also exhibit a strong work ethic at school. The team cumulative GPA is 3.797. They are the true definition of a student-athlete,” Jerdon said. “The ladies are active in many school activities and are leaders in the school and community.”
Team members include Olivia Baumann, Cate Clabaugh, Elise Hewitt, Morgan Imhoff, Bailey Jerdon, Maggie Ott, Paige Pitsinger, Lily Shepherd, Emma Upham, Zoee Willard, and Samantha Witte.
