Eaton reaches quarterfinal of regional dual tournament

HAMILTON — Eaton’s wrestling team reached the quarterfinal of the Division II regional dual team tournament before bowing out.

The No. 5 seed Eagles won their first round match 52-30 over No. 12 seed Hamilton Badin, before falling to No. 4 seed Chaminade Julienne 49-30.

The tournament was held on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Ross High School.

Top seeded Ross won the tournament iwth a 52-23 win over No. 2 Monroe to advance to this week’s state dual tournament.

Against Badin, Eaton rallied from a 30-6 deficit for the win.

Eaton forfeited the first two matches at 106 and 113 pounds to fall behind 12-0.

Owen Hewitt got the Eagles on the board with a pin over Joseph Tri-Rudolpf in 3 minutes, 39 seconds at 120 pounds.

Eaton lost the next three matches at 126, 132, and 138 pounds by pin.

Wade Monebrake started the comeback at 145 pounds as he pinned Andrew Trotter in 57 seconds.

Chris Weadick followed with a pin of Eli Emmons in 1:14 at 152 pounds.

Zac Schmidt scored a 15-4 decision over Cameron Lapthorn at 160 pounds to pull Eaton to within 30-22.

Logan Chapin followed with pin of Andrew Chen in 55 seconds at 170 pounds.

At 182, Beau Austin pinned Will Poehner in 37 seconds to put Eaton on top 34-30.

Holden Sittloh, Skylar Straszheim and Seth Bowman all won by forfeit to round out the scoring.

Against CJ, Eaton gave up points at 106 and 113 with forfeits.

Hewitt won his second match with a pin of Chris Rau in 3:48.

CJ won the next three matches for a 28-6 lead.

Monebrake won by forfeit, but the Eagles dropped the next four matches.

Sittloh won by disqualification over Marquis Henry at 195 pounds.

Straszheim pinned Marquel Henry in 1:49 at 220 pounds and Bowman won by pin in 38 seconds over Alonzo Carter at 285 pounds.

Eaton was scheduled to host Covington on Tuesday, Feb. 5 for its Senior Night.

The Eagles will next compete at the Southwestern Buckeye League tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16, at Monroe High School.
