Panthers take down Dixie

LEWISBURG — Tri-County North collected a pair of wins during the first day of the high school baseball season on Saturday, March 23.

The host Panthers held on for an 8-7 win in the first game of a double-header against Dixie, then run-ruled the Greyhounds in the second game, 16-3.

In game one, North grabbed a 3-1 lead after one only to see Dixie tie the game in the fourth with a pair of runs.

North broke the tie in the fifth on a single by Philip Lockwood.

Leading 5-3 heading to the sixth, North tallied three runs in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-3 lead.

Chayse Eby and Dylan Curtin drove in runs in the inning.

The Greyhounds fought back to make it interesting in the seventh as they scored four times.

Wyatt Hutchins was the winning pitcher for North. He surrendered four runs on one hit over two innings, striking out three. Lockwood threw one inning in relief to earn the save.

Matthew O’dell started the game for North. He allowed three hits and three runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one.

North collected 12 hits in the game. Hutchins, Collin Whipp, Liam Downing, Clayton Finney, and Eby each collected multiple hits for the Panthers.

In game two, Downing had three hits and drove in four runs. He drove in runs on a double in the first and a triple in the second.

North put the game out of reach early.

They scored three in the first, four in the second and three more in the third. North tallied six runs in the fourth to take a double-digit lead.

Lockwood was the winning pitcher for North. He went three innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out five and walking zero.

Casey and Collin Whipp each had three hits.

North (2-0) was scheduled to host Twin Valley South on Tuesday, March 26 and will play at Arcanum on Thursday, March 28. The Panthers will close out the week with a double header at Valley View.
