Eagles suffer 1st loss, still atop SWBL standings

EATON — Eaton’s volleyball team’s 14-match unbeaten streak came to end with a 5-set loss at Valley View last week.

The Eagles were unable to overcome 33 hitting errors and an .070 hitting percentage and suffered a 25-22, 19-25, 19-25, 25-15, 8-15 loss on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Senior Shay Perry led the team with 12 kills.

Junior Libby Giffen had 11 kills, four aces, and 20 digs.

Freshman Olivia Baumann added 10 kills and nine digs.

Junior Claire Sorrell had 11 digs.

Junior Carsyn Lammers had 19 assists.

Freshman Bailey Jerdon had 16 assists.

The Eagles bounced backed from the loss to defeat Talawanda on Saturday in four sets 26-24, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21.

Baumann led the way with 16 kills and three aces.

Perry contributed 12 kills, while Giffen added 10 kills, four aces and 13 digs.

As team, Eaton had 46 kills in the match.

Lammers added four aces and 18 assists and Jerdon contributed 15 assists.

Senior Molly Curry had 11 digs.

Eaton, now 15-1 overall and 8-1 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern Division was scheduled to host Brookville on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The Blue Devils entered the match 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the league.

With a win, Eaton can clinch at least a share of the league title.

Eaton was also scheduled to play Tri-County North on Monday and will travel to Oakwood on Thursday.
