Gard earns All-SWBL Runner of the Year

EATON — Eaton’s Seth Gard was recently named the 2016 Southwestern Buckeye League Runner of the Year in the Southwestern Division for cross country. The senior earned his fourth All-SWBL first team Southwestern Division honor since his freshman year in 2013.

Severalother Eaton runners earned all-conference honors for the 2016 season. Junior Tanner Titkemeyer joins Gard on the first team all-conference. Sophomore Cole Bulach and freshman Alex McCarty were named to the All-SWBL Southwestern Division second team.

The Eagles finished second in the division tournament standings, with 79 points. Gard and Titkemeyer finished first and 10th in the league championships. Bellbrook won the Southwestern Division with a 42 points.

Preble Shawnee finished sixth in the Buckeye Division. Freshman Rylan Roberts earned second team All-SWBL Buckeye Division honors. This was the first season in cross country competition for the Arrows in more than a decade.

Bellbrook won the boys’ team Southwestern Division, with four first team and three second team honorees. Milton-Union repeats as Southwestern Division boys’ champions, led by freshman Will Brock who was named Athlete of the Year. The Bulldogs have four first team and three second team all conference selections for the 2016 season.

In the girls’ competition, Eaton earned fourth place in the final Southwestern Division standings. Juniors Katie Bassler and Sasha Taxter earned second team All-SWBL Southwestern Division honors for the Lady Eagles. Bellbrook was the Southwestern Division girls team champion, earning its second title in three years.

In the Buckeye Division, Preble Shawnee finished sixth in the standings, with no individual awards for the first season of competition. Waynesville was the division champion for the girls.
