The Golden Buckeye Card


More than two million Ohioans are eligible for the Golden Buckeye card, honored at 20,000 businesses statewide. Golden Buckeye cardholders have saved an estimated $2 billion since 1976. All Ohioans age 60 or older, as well as adults age 18-59 who have disabilities as defined by Social Security, are eligible for a free Golden Buckeye card.


How to Get a Card - Ohio residents who hold current Ohio Driver Licenses or State ID cards automatically receive a Golden Buckeye card in the month of their 60th birthday. Individuals who do not have a current license or State ID, as well as people under age 60 who are eligible due to disability, or who otherwise do not receive their card automatically, may apply for a card at most public libraries and at the Preble County Senior Center, 800 East St. Clair Street, Eaton, 937-456-4947. Due to ID, age and disability (when appropriate) verification requirements, you cannot apply for a Golden Buckeye Card online or by phone.

1) What will you accept as proof of disability for a Golden Buckeye Card?


To prove eligibility for a Golden Buckeye Card due to disability, we need one of the following documents:


a Medicare (not Medicaid) card;


SSDI acceptance documentation; or


A copy of a document certifying permanent and total disability issued by any state department, Ohio public employee retirement system (STRS, PERS, etc), or any federal retirement system.


We are unable to accept any other form of proof of disability, such as a letter from your doctor.


2) I applied or called for a new or replacement Golden Buckeye Card but I have not yet received it. What should I do?


You should receive your card in six to eight weeks after your application is received. If you have not received your card in this time period, call toll-free 1-866-301-6446 during normal business hours and ask for the status of your application.


3) My card was lost or stolen. How do I get a new one?


Call toll-free 1-866-301-6446 during normal business hours to request a replacement.


4) I need to change my name on my Golden Buckeye Card. How do I do this?


Call toll-free 1-866-301-6446 during normal business hours to request the change.


5) The name on my Golden Buckeye Card is wrong. Can you fix this?

6) Where I can use my Golden Buckeye Card?


Look for the Golden Buckeye Card logo on doors, windows and at the cash register. If you don’t see the card logo ask if they offer a Golden Buckeye Card or senior discount.
