Senior Edition


EATON — Walking takes place on the grounds of the Preble County Senior Center from 9-10 a.m. each Wednesday morning in June. The weather is cooler this time of morning, making the walk enjoyable. Bring a group of your friends and join us as we walk and explore the grounds of the Senior Center.

Friday at the Movies will be held at the Senior Center at 1:30 p.m. on June 26. Stardust, the feature presentation, will be shown on our large screen television. Escape into the enchanted world of chivalry and romance with Stardust. The movie stars Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, and Sienna Miller. There is no charge to attend.

The Preble County Senior Center, Council on Aging offices and the Decade’s Diner will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day Holiday. We will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 6.

The time has been changed on the Senior Scams Fraud Prevention Meeting that will be held at the Preble County Senior Center on Friday, July 10. The new time of the meeting is 10 a.m. The speaker will be Danielle Murphy, Consumer Educator, Consumer Protection Office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine. This informational meeting is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

The Thursday Night Weekly Dance takes place in the barn on the grounds of the Preble County Senior Center, 800 East St. Clair Street, Eaton, Ohio. This new location is temporary during the period of time needed for paving of the parking lot and other improvements at The Grange (formerly named The Gathering Place). The dance features delicious food (with a $1 menu) and tasty snacks, the 50/50 drawing, door prizes and great bluegrass and country music by Don Pease and the Country Ramblers. Restrooms are available in the Senior Center. We look forward to seeing you at our next Thursday Night Dance.

The Decade’s Diner, complete with juke box, graffiti wall, and striking “fab 50s” decorations, is a fun location for lunch. The new menu features many delicious items and we always have a couple daily specials. The Diner is also the site of our daily Congregate Meal. The Decade’s Diner is located at Preble County Senior Center, 800 East St. Clair Street, Eaton. It is open for lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Diner is open to the public and all ages are welcome.

The Decade’s Diner hosts a weekly Friday Night Cruise-In from 6:00-9:00 pm at the Preble County Senior Center. We invite owners of street rods, classic cars, historical vehicles, unique vehicles, motorcycles, etc. to join us at the weekly Cruise-Ins. The Decade’s Diner will be open with a special Cruise-In menu. The 50s music will be rocking inside on the jukebox. Spectators are welcome.

A Matter of Balance Fall Prevention Classes are available on a continuous basis at the Preble County Senior Center. Classes are held for two hours a day, once a week, for an 8 week period. The cost is $10 per person for the 16 hours of instruction. New classes are scheduled. Please call 937- 456-4947 to register or to receive more information on A Matter of Balance.

We need volunteers to help deliver meals to seniors and shut-ins in the county. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday, except holidays, to seniors in Preble County. Drivers work two to three hours a day delivering meals in their vehicle to senior citizens. Drivers have a dedicated route, and can work one, two or more days per week, or just one day per month. Adult drivers of any age are eligible to volunteer. Drivers receive mileage reimbursement.
