
CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee girls’ tennis team continues to close in on its first SWBL Buckeye Division tennis championship as the team remained undefeated in league play — improving its record to 6-0 in the conference.
The week started with a win over Franklin on Monday, Sept. 14, where they defeated the Wildcats 5-0. The singles threesome of Brooklyn Hubbard, Ashlyn Hubbard and Sydney Quilllen swept every game, combining to go 36-0 in games for the three singles matches.
In doubles play, Allison Zornes and Alivia Reek defeated Belinda Morris and Logan Jobe 6-1, 6-0. Lauren Smith and Jane Feck defeated Kristina Tackett and Audrey Brinkman 6-0, 6-0.
On the day, the Arrows won a total of 60 games compared to just one for Franklin.
On Wednesday, Sept. 16, the Arrows hosted and defeated West Carrolton by a score of 5-0. B. Hubbard swept first singles by defeating Aryane Trent, 6-0, 6-0. In second singles A. Hubbard defeated Lucy Shriver 6-1, 6-2 and in third singles Sydney Quillen defeated Carlee Bohn 6-1, 6-1.
Zornes and Reek defeated Natalie Hart and Cara Cummins 6-2, 6-0, while Bennet and Feck defeated Daejah Hastings and Iman Oudabachi 6-2, 6-1.
On Thursday, Sept. 17, Shawnee traveled to Talawanda and beat the Braves 4-1 in a non-conference match up.
B. Hubbard lost her first match of the year to Katie Curry by a score of 2-6, 6-0, 6-2. A. Hubbard picked up a win over Carly Sherba 6-0, 6-1, and Quillen defeated Julia Less 6-1, 6-1. All the singles players are now 17-1 on the season for the Arrows.
Zornes and Reek defeated Allison Heitger and Alevera Abousef 6-0, 6-3 and Bennet and Lauren Smith defeated Emily Brosier and Emma Darby 6-0, 7-5.
Preble Shawnee is now 15-1 on the season and 6-0 in the SWBL Buckeye Division. They were scheduled to travel to Thomas Cloud Park on Tuesday, Sept. 22, for the SWBL tournament where they had a chance to close out the SWBL championship.
