EATON — The Grandview Medical Center donated $5,000 to the Eaton Police Division to help in the training of Argo, the department’s canine, during a city council meeting on Monday, Dec. 21.
“We are always looking to fulfill our mission which is broader than healthcare. It is to improve the quality of lives of people in the communities we serve,” said Grandview Medical President Russ Wetherell.
The training of a police dog was a first for the medical center, however.
“We were approached with another community need which is actually new to our group as the proposal came and that was for some assistance with the canine dog that joined the force. We asked ourselves is that something that fits with our mission and the kind of things we do? We decided that yes it is,” said Wetherell. “We are happy to do that to reinforce our ongoing partnership which, from our point of view, has been very rewarding.”
Eaton’s Police Chief Chad DePew thanked Wetherell and his hospital for the generous gift, as well.
“I just want to thank (Grandview Medical Center). It’s just been an incredible donation to us and has helped us make this happen. We can’t express our thanks enough for this donation. It’s been wonderful for us,” he said.
