Arrows upset bid of number one seed Williamsburg falls short

WILLIAMSBURG —The Preble Shawnee wrestling team’s upset bid of number one seeded Williamsburg came up just shy — Williamsburg defeated the Arrows 42-36 in regional quarterfinal dual competition on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

The Arrows advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating East Clinton in the second round of the dual tournament, 51-27.

The Arrows defeated East Clinton in the second round of the tournament, using victories in eight of the 12 weight classes.

Kage Worley earned a victory for the Arrows with a pin in just over five minutes in the 113 weight class.

Tanner Claybaker defeated Cameron Bloch for another Arrow victory in the 170 pound weight class, with a score of 11-6.

Kolton Dillion defeated Darrell Perry Jr. of East Clinton with a pin in the third minute of the match.

The remaining Arrows won by forfeit, as East Clinton was unable to field a wrestler for the weight classes.

The win advanced the Arrows to take on the top seeded Williamsburg team. The Arrows gave the host team everything they wanted, as the dual came down to the final match.

Camron Neal started the Arrows off with a win in the 106 weight class as he earned a pin victory in less than a minute over Seth Herndon of Williamsburg.

Worley continued his strong wrestling by defeating Caleb Nipper with a pin in just under three minutes.

Steven Carter continued the Arrows dominance of the lighter weight classes as he defeated Ezra Wallace with a pin victory.

Kole Monebrake, however, fell to Kendal Johnson of Williamsburg in his match with a 6-3 decision in the 126 pound weight class. Travis Tatum then fell to Trent Brewer of Williamsburg after being pinned.

Bailey Hedge got the Arrows back on track in the 138 pound weight class, picking up a 37-second pin victory over Aaron Tigert.

Randy Thornberry then defeated Preble Shawnee’s Luke Lovely in the 152-pound weight class.

Dawson Davis of Williamsburg defeated Claybaker in the 170-pound weight class in a close decision, by a score of 8-6.

Dillion then picked up an important victory over Spencer Clowery with a pin in just over three minutes.

Dylan Bailey defeated Preble Shawnee’s Tanner Crabtree with a pin in 59 seconds in the 195-pound weight class but Mason Williams returned the favor by pinning Trevor Berry in just under two minutes in the 220 pound weight class.

Brian Stears from Williamsburg sealed the victory with his pin over Alex Steele in the final match of the day in the 285-pound weight class.

The Arrows were forced to use forfeits in the 145 and 160 pound weight class. Each forfeit cost the Arrows six points.

The Arrows will turn their focus to the SWBL tournament hosted at Franklin on Friday Feb. 5, and Saturday, Feb. 6.
