Firewood collection area available at Hueston Woods

COLLEGE CORNER – Due to the infestation of Ash trees by the Emerald Ash Borer as well as the regular removal of damaged/potentially dangerous trees and the large number of trees involved, ODNR has designated an area within Hueston Woods State Park as a “Firewood Collection Area.” This designation means that for a specific time and in a specific area, wood may be collected by the public for personal use. Specific rules, terms and conditions apply.

Hueston Woods State Park has designated Locust Grove Picnic Area as a firewood collection area now through May 1. During this period people may collect fallen/downed timber (branches, twigs and logs on the ground) from the paved areas within the designated area and remove it from the park for their personal use. Do not cut any standing timber. Collection is permitted during daylight hours. Chainsaws may be used in this area. Vehicles may not be driven off roadways or parking lots. Vehicles and equipment with rubber tires only permitted. Be helpful and place any unwanted brush/debris along the edge of the parking area, with cut ends facing the same direction. Be safe and use proper safety equipment when collecting firewood.
