2018 Larry A. Hart Memorial recipient announced

PREBLE COUNTY — The Larry A. Hart Memorial Scholarship Committee recently announced they had determined the recipient for 2018.

Jacob Henman was chosen from several excellent candidates. Jacob is the son of Mike and Kelly Henman of Bellefontaine. Jacob will graduate in May from Benjamin Logan High School. While in high school, Jacob was active in FFA (Vice President), Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Track, Varsity Basketball, 4-H (Vice-president of his group), and active in the Rushsylvania Church of Christ Youth Group. He also volunteered at the Local Community Outreach Center for kids, Our Daily Bread (soup kitchen) and summer vacation Bible School. In addition to school activities and volunteering, Jacob has worked part-time at Arby’s, Wenger’s Produce, farm hand for Mayhem Farms, Cabinety by Ebbing and the Logan County Board of Elections. In the fall, he will be starting classes at Lake Superior State University, Saut Ste Marie, Michigan majoring in Criminal Justice/Natural Resources program.

The Larry A. Hart Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship that is sponsored by the Ohio Wildlife Officer’s Lodge #143 of the Fraternal Order of Police and The Twin Valley Rod and Gun Club in Preble County. The scholarship is available to those persons who are graduating or have graduated from an accredited high school, and will enroll, or are enrolled in an accredited college majoring in Law Enforcement or Natural Resources Studies.

This scholarship was established in memory of Wildlife Officer Larry A. Hart. At the time of his death, Larry Hart was a 30-year veteran of the Ohio Department of Wildlife. Those in the professions of Wildlife Management and Law Enforcement recognize his integrity and his commitment to service and conservation.
