EATON — According to City of Eaton staff, the 9-1-1 dispatch consolidation with Preble County is progressing well and the projected date has been moved to May 1, 2019.

Eaton City Council was updated on the project’s progress during a meeting on Monday, Sept. 17.

The launch date had been September of this year, then January of 2019, and now it is set for May. The Preble County Sheriff’s Office will begin the employment process in November. The PCSO will first see if the two current Eaton dispatchers would like to be employed with the county, then the PCSO will proceed to advertise for outside applicants.

In other business:

•Council held the first reading of an ordinance to amend the zoning district classification from C-1 General Commercial to I-1 Heavy Industrial for Part Outlot 138, 301 Industrial Drive, Eaton, was approved. Herschel Braughton is the owner of L&L Towing at 301 Industrial Drive. He operates a vehicle repair business at that location now and wanted to add the impound lot to a vacant portion of the lot. The current code didn’t allow for such use, so two text amendments were required.

•Council approved an ordinance repealing codified ordinance section entitled “Industrial Districts,” “Table 7: Uses in the Industiral District” and enacting a section of the same name. City Manager Brad Collins explained, with the request by Braughton, certain sections of the codified ordinances need to be amended to allow for this use.

•An ordinance adding “Vehicle Impound Lot” to existing Section 1113.01(e) of the codified ordinances was also approved.

•A resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the Preble County Budget Commission was approved.

The next regular meeting of Eaton City Council will be held on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m., in the Eaton Municipal Building.
