WEST ALEXANDRIA — Twin Valley Community Local Schools will have a 0.75 percent income tax renewal on the ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

During the TVCLSD Board of Education meeting on Monday, Sept. 24, Superintendent Joe Scholler discussed ways to get the news out to the public.

One way the district has already tried is making an announcement at the football games. Volunteers will also be passing out informational cards.

“We need help getting this out to the public. It is a renewal, I know it doesn’t increase the taxes, but it is a vote. The biggest thing that I see can happen is people who are going to vote yes feel like it is going to pass, so they don’t vote. They are the ones that need to get out and vote,” Scholler said.

“The no voters will vote, guaranteed, but we need every one of the yes voters to vote on that day. We need all of your help to get that out to the public,” he added.

In other business, Scholler reported the district is working with the Lockdown Co. to get the Boot Barricade system installed properly without any issues. According to Scholler, teachers got to use the technology and really liked it, but there have been some “issues” the company is working to resolve.

Scholler added, the district will only pay the company once satisfied with the work. Once the work is completed, the district will have a walk through and approve the final payment.

Scholler also addressed the school report card, noting he has a meeting planned for the October board meeting with Butler County Educational Service Center to review the scores and discuss plans for raising those scores.

On the Twin Valley Community Local report card, the district received an overall grade of ‘C.’ It received an ‘A’ in Graduation Rate, ‘C’ in Gap Closing, ‘D’ in Improving At-Risk K-3 Readers, Prepared for Success, and Achievement, and an ‘F’ in Progress.

“What normally happens in the State of Ohio, is that eventually we will get all ‘As and ‘Bs on this thing in a couple years. Then the legislators will change the whole system and the next year we will have ‘Ds, ‘Fs, and ‘Cs. It will take four or five years to get it back up again. That is just the standard procedure from the legislators,” Scholler said.
