Blazers improve to 6-1

NEW PARIS — National Trail’s softball team capped off a perfect 5-0 week with a 5-4, 13-inning win over Preble Shawnee on Saturday.

Trail improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Cross County Conference with the wins.

Trail began the week with a 17-2 win over Hagerstown on Tuesday, April 2. The Blazers followed with a 7-2 win over Franklin-Monroe on Tuesday, a 28-2 win over Mississinawa Valley on Thursday and a 14-3 win over Union City (Ind.) on Friday, before knocking off the Arrows.

The Lady Blazers pick up their second win of the season with the win over Hagerstown in 5-innings. The Blazers were led offensively by Bobbi Grimes going 4-5 with a triple and 3 RBI’s, Davlyn Werner 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI’s and Makena Laird hitting one off the scoreboard for a first inning home run.

In the circle, was Madison Hathaway picked up her first win of the season giving up only one hit in her start.

Against F-M, the Lady Blazers were led offensively by Skyler Ward, who went 3-4 with a double and two runs scored. Savanna Abner was 2-4 with 3 RBI’s and Kayleigh Minner went 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

In the circle, for her second win of the season was Davlyn Werner. She pitched an outstanding complete game spreading out 6 hits over 7 innings and giving up no walks.

On Thursday, Trail picked up another CCC win with the rout of Missisinawa Valley. The Blazers were led offensively by Savanna Abner, who was 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s.

Bobbi Grimes went 4-6 with a double, triple and 3 RBI’s.

Davlyn Werner was 2-4 with 4 RBI’s, while Makena Laird went 2-4 with a triple and 4 RBI’s. Madison Hathaway went 3-4 with 3 singles.

In the circle with another strong outing was Madison Hathaway who got the win.

Against Union City, the Blazers were led offensively by Makena Laird, who went 3-3 with a double. Savanna Abner was 3-4 with a double and Madison Hathaway 1-3 with a double.

Molly Skinner pitched three innings to got the win. J’da Jackson and Madison Hathaway also each pitched an inning.

Against Preble Shawnee, Gracie Jones was 4-6 with 4 singles and 3 RBI’s, Bobbi Grimes was 2-5 and Madison Hathaway 1-2 with the game winning RBI.

Starting in the circle was Davlyn Werner with another strong outing, pitching 8 innings with 8 strike outs. Getting the win was Madison Hathaway, who also had another strong outing. Hathaway threw the final 5 innings giving up no hits, no walks and 4 strike outs.

The Lady Blazers were scheduled to play Centerville (Ind.) on Monday and Newton on Tuesday. On Thursday, Trail is scheduled to play at Tri-Village and will host Ansonia on Friday.
