LEWISBURG — During a Lewisburg Village Council meeting on Thursday, Nov. 7, Mayor Marsha Jones discussed the village’s 3.8-mill replacement levy which was approved by voters on Nov. 5.
She also congratulated council members who were re-elected.
“That was a favorable day for the village. Congratulations to Mark [Madigan] and Ted [Thies] on being re-elected,” she said.
Jones was also re-elected on Nov. 5.
“Of course, our levy passed, so we’re thankful for our community support,” Jones said.
Village Administrator Jeff Sewert added, “We tagged this levy, going forward, to be dedicated for the additional funding to go to the Fire and EMS. We’re going to follow through with that.”
J. Todd Smith, State Representative of the 43rd District, spoke to council regarding the Preble County Patriotic Parkway he is proposing. However, Lewisburg Council had already approved the ceremonial naming at a previous meeting. Smith asked council if they had questions.
Mayor Jones said, “I think it is a great idea.”
According to Smith, several Preble County villages have already given the parkway approval to utilize their streets. For Smith, Preble County Patriotic Parkway is meant to encourage patriotism in the “next” generation.
“We will be the first in the state to have a parkway like that,” he explained. “Can we do something to keep the idea that people who serve should be honored? At the heart of Preble County is patriotism.”
Adam Craft introduced himself to council, explaining he is campaigning for Preble County Commissioner. He also commended Lewisburg on its block parties and efforts.
“I’ve been up a few times for a couple of your block parties — I love it. You are an example to the rest of the county; you guys have done a great job,” he said.
In other business:
•Representative Smith reported to council regarding the MARCS radio system for which Lewisburg filed a grant application.
•Mayor Jones shared information on the Harvest Fest held in October, adding, “It was a lot of fun.” She also talked about the Bicentennial Square Dedication which was held later in the day during the festival.
•A Charter Review meeting was tentatively scheduled for Monday, Nov. 25, at 5:30 p.m.
