Shawnee superintendent resigning

CAMDEN — After five years as Preble Shawnee Local Schools Superintendent, Dr. Matt Bishop is resigning to accept a position at Miami Valley Career Technology Center.

Bishop submitted his resignation to the PS Board of Education in a letter dated Wednesday, April 14.

The letter, addressed to PS Board President Julie Singleton, noted: “Five years ago, the Board of Education hired me to become superintendent of the Preble Shawnee Local School District. Together, we have accomplished a considerable amount including a $6.5 million dollar renovation of the Jr./Sr. High School building, planned improvements to Camden Primary this summer, enhancements to our educational programming, addition of School Resource Officers, creation of CCP and STEM courses, implementation of 1:1 student devices beginning this fall, community engagement that yielded our Facilities Master Plan, and so much more.”

Bishop’s letter continues, “There have been countless scholastic, artistic, and athletic achievements by our young people and our parents and community members have been great partners. I am fortunate to have been at the helm during this very successful period for our school district.”

Bishop has accepted a position at MVCTC as the school’s Director of Business and Campus Operations.

“While I am excited about this opportunity, leaving Preble Shawnee was not an easy decision,” Bishop continued. “I care very deeply for this proud school district. The staff, and the Board of Education in particular, have been supportive throughout my tenure. As the district selects their next leader, I will work tirelessly with him or her to create a seamless transition and ensure the quality of education does not diminish in any way.”

Bishop’s resignation is effective at the end of the business day on Wednesday, June 30.

A 1996 graduate of Miami University, Bishop received his Master of Education degree from the University of Dayton in 2000 and completed requirements for a Superintendent license soon after. In 2009, he received his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from U.D. He began his educational career in 1997 in Preble County, as a middle school teacher in the Twin Valley Community Local School District in West Alexandria.

He also served as the TVCLSD technology coordinator and as Twin Valley South Middle School principal before returning his own alma mater, Carlisle High School in Carlisle, to become high school principal. He served at Carlisle until he was named Lockland (Hamilton) Superintendent in 2013. He was hired as superintendent at Preble Shawnee in August 2016.
