PREBLE COUNTY – It was light week for softball games, but National Trail managed to get in three games, while the rest of the county teams played two or fewer.
Blazers improve to 2-1 in WOAC
NEW PARIS – National Trail picked up a pair of Western Ohio Athletic Conference wins to improve to 2-1 in the WOAC and 2-4 overall.
Trail knocked off visiting Preble Shawnee 6-0 on Thursday, April 7.
The Blazers scored single runs in the second and fifth innings, while adding two runs in each the third and sixth innings to get the win.
Senior Skyler Ward went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, 3 RBIs and scored two runs in addition to pitching a complete-game, 3-hitter. She also struck out nine.
Haley Davidson was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Rylee Minner was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored and Maddie Harrison added a hit and 2 RBIs.
On Tuesday, Trail beat Mississinawa Valley 10-6.
After falling behind 3-1 after the first inning, Trail tallied four runs in the second and added two more in the third for a 7-3 lead.
As a team, the Blazers collected 12 hits. Minner was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Harrison added a double and drove in four runs. Jenna Petitt added two hits, including a double and drove in two runs. Ashton Voiles collected two hits and drove in a pair.
Trail began the week with a 15-3 loss to Springfield on Monday. Zoey Lee had two hits, including her first home run of the season. Jeleah Coffey also homered.
Trail was scheduled to play Centerville (Ind.) on Monday, April 11 and host Twin Valley South on Tuesday. The Blazers will visit Arcanum on Thursday.
Shawnee (0-5) has a busy week planned. The Arrows were to host Tri-County North on Tuesday. They will host Ponitz on Wednesday and travel to Bradford on Thursday. On Friday, they will host Cincinnati Deer Park and close out the week by traveling to Valley View on Saturday.
North suffers first loss
LEWISBURG – After pounding Northridge 23-4 on Monday, Tri-County North suffered a 11-0 setback to defending Division IV state champion Bradford for its first loss of the season.
North collected 16 hits as a team.
Angelia Depoy was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Gracie Hemp drove in a pair of runs and Natalie Lefeld brought in three.
Nicole Lefeld went 4-or-5 and scored three times. Kora Lykins contributed a pair of hits and Sadie Royer added three hits.
Against Bradford, North had three hits, with Makenzie Lykins recording two of those.
The Panthers (3-1) were scheduled to play at Preble Shawnee on Tuesday and will host Franklin-Monroe on Thursday. On Saturday, North is scheduled to play at doubleheader at Tecumseh.
South drops only contest
ANSONIA – Twin Valley South managed just four hits in an 11-1, 5-inning defeat at Ansonia on Thursday, April 7.
South scored an unearned run in the first, but the Tigers responded with five in the bottom of the inning to take control. Ansonia scored two in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings.
For South, Maci Arndts, Sidnee Elswick, Meredith Pieratt and Makenzie Wise each had a hit.
South (1-3) was scheduled to play at National Trail on Tuesday and will travel to Oakwood on Friday..
