NEW PARIS — The National Trail Board of Education recently held its organizational meeting for 2023, during which members nominated and appointed the board president, the board vice president, as well as established administrative positions and a meeting schedule for 2023.

The board nominated and elected Gary Moore board president, with Cindy Lee being nominated and elected vice president. Lee also assumed the position of Student Achievement Liaison, and board member Midy Ward volunteered to act as the Legislative Liaison.

The board established board member compensation as $125 per meeting for each board member, not to exceed 12 meetings in a calendar year. They also set the Board Service Fund at $7,500 for 2023.

The board designated The Register-Herald as the official newspaper for the district. The board also appointed Frost Brown Todd LLC. And Dinsmore and Shohl LLP as its official legal counsel.

The board of education meeting schedule for 2023 will be: Tuesday, Feb. 28; Tuesday, March 28; Tuesday, April 25; Tuesday, May 23;Tuesday, June 27; Tuesday, July 25;Tuesday, Aug. 22;Tuesday, Sept. 26;Tuesday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Dec. 6.Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center unless otherwise noted.

In other business:

• Superintendent Bob Fischer noted January is board of education appreciation month, and gifted each member with a certificate of appreciation, thanking them for their dedication to the district.

• John Toschlog, Director of Transportation and Safety, informed the board of four new gas-engine buses which have joined the district fleet. Fischer added that two of the four buses were paid for with grants.

• The board accepted the resignation of Sylvia Yoder, who is entering retirement, effective March 1, 2023, and also accepted a transfer of Shelly Roark to fill the position of day cook.

• The board accepted the resignation of custodian Clint Manlove, and also accepted the transfer of Aaron Owens to fill the custodial position.
