Food for body, soul

EATON — It’s been a busy few months for members and visitors alike at Eaton First Presbyterian Church.

In October the youth continued its annual tradition of trick or treat so others can eat. The mission was not only to let the youth dress up and have fun, but also encourage them to understand the importance of giving to help others. Bags were given out to various neighborhoods to be stuffed with nonperishable food. A total of 717 items were collected for the local food bank.

The Free Little Library was completed and placed at the side yard of the church facing Beech Street. The library was created by members of the congregation as one of its missions. There you may find not only food, but also books and even an uplifting note. It’s been wonderful to see that not only church’s congregants contribute to the Little Library, but the surrounding neighborhood is also adding items when they notice it is getting low.

Advent marked a special time for the congregation with fellowship and a craft to follow each Sunday after church service. This was not only for the youth, but adults were encouraged to participate in the activity as well. Grandparents and grandchildren, mothers and daughters, spouses and friends all participated.

Sunday, Jan. 29, marked the second time for Brunch Church at Eaton Presbyterian Church. During this time, the congregation enjoys a more relaxed service in the church’s basement all while eating food and having fellowship. Several missions were also accomplished after worship service. Valentine cards were made and candy was packed for residents of Greenbriar Nursing Home. Several residents do not have family members to lift their spirits, so that mission is an ongoing commitment by the church. Much needed clean-outs were completed for an office and storage area. Crayons were broken, placed into molds and melted in the oven. Those are to be donated to Triangle Therapy to help clients with fine motor skills.

There are several activities for those of all ages. If you are looking for a church to feed your body and your soul, you are invited to visit on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. It’s sure to feed both.
