PCDL seeking new board of trustees member

EATON — The Preble County District Library (PCDL) Board of Trustees is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on its board.

The PCDL Board of Trustees consists of seven members who work as a team to bring special skills and community representation to board discussions and policy making. They are responsible for setting the library’s policies, approving the annual budget, employing and evaluating the director and fiscal officer, planning for the future, monitoring the library’s effectiveness, and advocating for the library.

Trustees serve a seven-year term or, in the case of an interim appointment, fulfill the term of the individual they are replacing. The current vacant position’s term ends in 2027.

Prospective trustees should be aware of the following criteria, which will be used by the other board members of Preble County District Library in evaluating candidates for the vacant position. A trustee must:

Attend board meetings (last Monday of each month, 7 p.m.)

Preview the agenda, minutes, and documents before each meeting.

Participate in discussion and decision-making at each meeting.

Be knowledgeable about the goals, plans, history, and future of the library.

Act fairly and independently to further the American Library Association’s Bill of Rights and advance the best interests of Preble County District Library.

Place the interests of Preble County District Library above any self-interest or particular branch or partisan group.

Live in Preble County (preference given to New Paris, Eldorado, and West Manchester area.)

Knowledge of community interests.
