PS Board reorganizes for new year

CAMDEN — The Preble Shawnee Local Schools Board of Education held its 2023 organizational meeting Thursday, Jan. 12, and appointed the new year’s board president, board vice president and several administrative liaisons, as well as set the meeting schedule for 2023.

The board nominated and appointed Jeff Wood as president for 2023, and Gary Rader as vice president. Both Wood and Rader were sworn in during the meeting.

The board appointed David Akers and Jeff Wood as the legislative liaisons for 2023, with Nick Duskey being appointed as the student achievement liaison.

The board designated the law firm of Bricker & Eckler LLP as the board’s general legal counsel for calendar year 2023.

The board established the following dates for the 2023 board of education meetings: Jan. 12, Feb. 9, March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 10, Aug. 17, Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9, Dec. 14. All meetings will be held on the second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium, excluding the July 10 meeting, which will be held on Monday at 3 p.m.

In other business:

• Superintendent Todd Bowling recognized January as Board of Education Appreciation Month, and formally thanked the board for their service to the district. Bowling presented the board members with certificates of appreciation.

• Bowling congratulated Julie Herrmann for being nominated for the Educator of the Year award for 2022, n award given by the Preble County Chamber of Commerce.

Preble Shawnee Board of Education meetings are open to the public, held on the second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m., in the high school auditorium located at 5495 Somers Gratis Road, Camden.
