EATON — On Tuesday, March 7, over 300 Preble County high school seniors participated in the first-ever Industry Sectors Day.

The event included visiting two of Preble County’s local manufacturing businesses and gave students the opportunity to have several “lunch and learn” sessions with over 30 businesses.

Preble County manufacturers toured included Bullen Ultrasonics, Cargill, Henny Penny, Neaton, Parker Hannifin (Eaton), and Pratt Industries (Lewisburg Container.)

Harold Niehaus, Preble County ESC Career Connections Director, said the day was a success, with many students learning of all the great opportunities available to them in Preble County and the nearby region.

Seniors were also able to sit with their choice of the 30 businesses and other career offerings attending the event. This allowed students to explore opportunities for jobs upon graduation or after further training in technical schools or at college.

The businesses present represented a variety of career fields and included Kettering Health, Reid Health, Premier Health, Edward Jones Financial, Somerville National Bank, Preble County Sheriff’s Department, Eaton Fire and EMS, Proctor & Gamble, Lawn Plus, Co-Alliance, Montgomery Lawn & Landscape, Preble County Mental Health and Recovery Board, and the Preble County Council on Aging.

Other career area participants included Garber Electric, Iron Workers 290, Sheet Metal Workers Local 24, Ohio Carpenters/Millwrights/Floor Layers Apprenticeships; Go Waibel HVAC, Plumbing, and Security, and Shook Construction. Representatives from the manufacturing businesses the seniors toured were also present for more in-depth discussions, and were joined by reps from Cleveland Cliffs and TimkenSteel.

Several local post-high school training options were also represented, including Edison State Community College, Miami Valley CTC Adult Education, Miami University Work Plus, Sinclair Community College, and Indiana University-East.

Niehaus gave special thanks to Edison State Community College for sponsoring the lunch students enjoyed as well as Positive Points Inc. for providing the facilities to host the “round-table” discussions at Eagles Point.
