JFS still lacking staff

EATON — The Board of Preble County Commissioners received the February report from Jobs and Family Services (JFS) Director Rebecah Sorrell on Monday, March 6.

According to Sorrell’s report, JFS is still facing staffing issues within its department, as well as morale depletion.

“Many of them had some personal crisis. Actually, almost every one of them had some kind of personal crisis that happened at the same time. Which kind of imploded our already hanging-on-by-a-thread staff,” said Sorrell.

According to Sorrell, the department’s two ongoing-case workers have been taking on extra intake cases to lighten the load, handling an additional 21 cases.

“It’s very heavy for them to take those intake-cases, which have completely different timelines than the ongoing case. If we go back and look at some the recommendations nation-wide for children’s services case workers, the recommendation is they not carry more than 12 cases each. By the end of February, both of these workers were carrying about 30 ongoing cases as well has helping out with intake cases,” said Sorrell.

“So, we’re really in some hard times.”
