Spring Small Business Event held in Eaton

EATON — A Preble County Spring Small Business Event was held Sunday, March 26, at Seven Mile Park in Eaton. The event was organized by Amanda Byrd, and open to the public.

“I set one up in December at National Trail — what I was trying to do is showcase local businesses that people may not have known about, while helping the school,” remarked Byrd. “I take a portion of the vendor fees and donate that to whatever organization I’m trying to help. So, in December that went to the school.”

Byrd explained the proceeds from the March event were being donated to Preble County Humane Society, largely inspired by recent animal abuse cases in the county.

She added, she herself is a small business owner and entrepreneur, which is what originally piqued her interest in other local businesses. “I discovered over two dozen businesses in and around Preble County I didn’t even know existed. All because I wanted to put this event on to help the Humane Society,” she said.

Byrd described the diversity displayed by the businesses as being unique and appealing, with products that “aren’t offered at Wal-Mart, Target or Kohl’s.”

Also at the event were food trucks, a raffle for National Trail wrestling camp, an Easter egg hunt for kids and 4-H activities.
