Blue Devils win four of five in Florida

FT. WALTON BEACH, FL — Brookville’s varsity baseball team won its first three games on its spring break trip to Florida before losing its first game of the season to Madison Central (Kentucky) High School.

The Blue Devils returned from Florida 7-1 overall.

In their first Florida game, the Blue Devils scored a 3-2 victory Sunday over Nelson County (Kentucky) High School. Tied at two runs the Devils scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Hunter Gray pitched four innings, scattered five hits, surrendered one earned run with five walks. Lane Willoughby pitched three innings, gave up one hit and struck out three.

Braden Chambers led the offense with two hits, including a double, scored a run and stole one base in three at bats. Kayde Baker went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Nathan Waggoner drew two walks, stole a base and had one RBI. Brandon Waggoner drew a walk, stole a base and scored twice.

Monday the Devils posted a 3-0 victory over Butler County (Kentucky). Josh Cooper pitched six innings and struck out eight with one walk. Sam Fullenkamp worked one inning with a walk and one strikeout.

Hunter Gray went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Kayde Baker, Seth Hoover, Brandon and Nathan Waggoner each had one hit.

On Tuesday the Devils scored a 12-6 victory over Middletown (Ohio) Madison to improve to 1-0 in league play and 6-0 overall.

Braden Chambers led the offense going 3-for-3 with a steal, two runs and two RBIs. Sam Fullenkamp went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and one run. Kayde Baker went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Brandon Waggoner went 2-for-5 with a steal and three runs. Josh Cooper went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Pitching saw Chambers throw two and two-thirds innings allowing three hits, five walks, two strikeouts and three earned runs. Nathan Waggoner pitched two and one-third innings, allowed one hit, two walks and four strikeouts. B. Waggoner tossed two innings, allowed two hits, three earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts.

Wednesday saw Brookville suffer its first loss, 7-5, to Madison Central (Kentucky). Brookville took a 4-0 first inning lead but the Indians scored one in the second, three in both the third and fourth innings. The Devils got one run in the bottom of the seventh.

Baker and Fullenkamp had two hits while B. Waggoner, N. Waggoner and Chambers had one hit each.

Brookville wrapped up the Florida trip Thursday with an 11-1 win over Todd County Central (Kentucky). The Devils scored four runs in both the first and second innings and never looked back. The Rebels scored their lone run in the bottom of the third.

Gray went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs. Lane Willoughby went 2-for-2 with one RBI. Landon Trent went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Baker went 1-for-2 with one run and two RBIs.

Cooper, Fullenkamp, Jace Wood, and Dominic Kleismit had one hit each. Wood and Kleismit stole two bases apiece.

Landon Trent pitched two and one-third innings with six walks and five strikeouts. N. Waggoner tossed two innings with two strikeouts. Coltin Lawson also went two innings with two walks and six strikeouts.
