Park board to organize stored items

BROOKVILLE — The park board will meet Saturday, April 22, at noon at the former BMX building in Golden Gate Park.

The purpose of the meeting is to organize the items stored inside the building in order to make better use of the space and to protect the items from being damaged or destroyed by mice, squirrels or other rodents that may find a way inside the building.

Items stored inside the building include Christmas decorations used during the annual Christmas in the Park drive-thru event held in Golden Gate Park and items belonging to the Brookville Optimist Club that are used for various events the organization sponsors.

The meeting date was suggested by park board president Adam Blevins.

“We can get together and start working on creating a more efficient way to organize items inside the old BMX building,” Blevins said.

The idea to organize the items inside the building was made by board member Bonnie Cordes at the Jan. 10 park board meeting.

“I have been working on how we can better put away and store the items that we use through the Christmas event because getting them out and putting them up is nothing as compared to picking them up and getting them back to where we need to store them,” Cordes said on Jan. 10.

Cordes said an example of the destruction that has taken place inside the building is the chewed Christmas light cords Cub Scout Pack 47 leaders encountered after storing the lights on the floor last year.

Because of the destruction, Cordes said the Scout leaders decided to put the lights inside a large wooden box so rodents couldn’t get to them.

Cordes said the problem with the box is where it was placed inside the building.

Cordes said because the space the Scout leaders had used in the past was already filled with items, they had to sit the box in another location, which was not the ideal place to sit it.

Cordes said devising a plan as to where and how to store the items would help alleviate those kinds of problems and make it easier to find the items.

Park board vice president Loren Wilson, on Jan. 10, suggested setting up a meeting at the building when the weather is better.

The meeting is open to the public.

Anyone interested in assisting the park board is encouraged to attend.
