Hanna, Hamm lead Blazers past Shawnee, 13-10

CAMDEN — Carley Hamm and Trista Hanna combined to drive in seven runs to lead National Trail’s softball team to a 13-10 win over Preble Shawnee on Wednesday, April 18.

Breanna Melling picked up the win and Morgan House collected a save in relief for the Blazers.

The Blazers struck first with Jaleah Coffey reaching second on an error and proceeded to score on a Maddie Harrison sacrifice bunt. Hamm followed with a triple to the right field corner and was driven in on a Haley Davidson ground out.

Shawnee hit well all day, plating two of their own, in the bottom of the first. The Arrows finished with 14 hits for the game.

Trail rebounded in the top of the third, capitalizing on multiple Shawnee fielding miscues. Hanna had the big hit of the inning with a double in the left center field gap. In the 4th, after Hamm reached on an error and Davidson singled, Hannah launched a drive over the center field fence for a home run.

Fortunately for the Blazers, they added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Melling led off with a single, Alley Ibarra reached on an error, and Harrison drove in the first run of the inning. Hamm then drove in two more of her 4 RBI.

Shawnee never gave up, capitalizing on two Trail errors and several well hit balls, plating five in the bottom of the 7th to close the score at 13 to 10. Miya Ditmer had a busy day at second base collecting 7 put outs and 2 assists.

Hamm finished the game going 2-for-5 with a triple, four RBI and three runs scored. Hanna had two hits, including a home run and triple, three RBI and scored twice.

Davidson and Melling each finished with two hits.

For Shawnee, Bethany Deaton had two hits and scored three runs. Maddey Gibbs added two hits and scored a run. Hailey Jenkins contributed two hits and drove in three runs. Delaney Klapper added two hits, including a double and drove in a run. Addison Sargern-Eckert was 2-for-3 with three RBI and scored twice.

Trail is now 7-6 overall and 4-3 in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference. They were scheduled to travel to Newton on Monday, April 24 and host Ansonia on Tuesday. The Blazers will host Twin Valley South on Friday and travel to Coldwater on Saturday.

Shawnee also beat Twin Valley South 17-6 and lost to Ansonia 15-1 last week.

The Arrows are now 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the WOAC. They are scheduled to play Troy Christian on Monday, April 24 and host Newton on Tuesday. On Thursday, Shawnee will host Mississinawa Valley and will play at Northmont on Saturday.
