CLAYTON — Northmont’s fastpitch softball team couldn’t push a run across the plate Wednesday during a 5-0 conference loss to Springboro.

Addison Burdick went 2-for-4 with a double and hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Springboro added four more runs in the seventh inning including a three-run homer by Lilly Widau.

Addison Burdick and Katie Jones teamed up to pitch a six-hit shutout. Burdick worked six innings, scattered six hits with one walk and one strikeout. Jones pitched the final inning with no hits allowed and two strikeouts.

Zoey Hodge went 2-for-3 to lead Northmont. She also pitched three innings in relief. She gave up five hits, four earned runs with a walk and two strikeouts.

Jadyn Johnson started and pitched four innings, gave up five hits, one earned run with a walk and two strikeouts. At bat she went 1-for-3 with a double.

The Lady Bolts struggled to string hits together and misplayed a few balls to the outfield that enabled Springboro to get extra-base hits.

Bella Miller went 2-for-2 for the Lady Panthers with a pair of doubles and scored a run. Hannah Gardner went 3-for-4. Ryleigh Johnson went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Bri Schul went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Springboro also won Monday’s game against Northmont, 3-2. The Lady Bolts have lost four of their last six games.

“We are making contact, but unfortunately we are hitting the ball right at them,” said Northmont coach Kris Mangen. “We only played two games last week and split those. I don’t know what to say. I’m at a loss right now.

“They had a big seventh inning with that home run,” Mangen added. “Defensively we are finally locking in and having less errors and we’ve been hitting the ball, but lately directly to defenders. Granted, we’ve lost two straight, but I feel like we are on an upswing.”
