PREBLE COUNTY — At press time, the Preble County Sheriff’s Office continued its investigation into a single-vehicle fatal crash which occurred on Ohio 177 near Eaton-Oxford Road early Sunday morning, April 30.

A 50-year-old College Corner man died as a result of the crash.

At approximately 2:56 a.m. Sunday, the Preble County 9-1-1 Center received a call reporting a vehicle in a pond along the roadway on Ohio 177, according to Sheriff Mike Simpson.

Deputies arrived on scene and found two occupants in the vehicle, Simpson said in a press release. The occupants were submerged in water. Deputies and Fire/EMS personnel pulled the occupants from the car and began CPR on both the driver and passenger, according to Simpson.

The preliminary investigation found the vehicle was traveling northwest on Ohio 177 when it traveled off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle traveled several hundred feet through a field before coming to rest in a farm pond. Both the driver and passenger were transported by EMS to Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton.

The male driver, identified Monday as Jamie R. Rogers, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, according to Simpson. The female passenger, Rogers’ wife Bonita S. Rogers, also 50, was in critical condition at press time.

Due to the car being submerged in water and the need for a possible water rescue, multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Camden-Somers Fire & EMS, the MedFlight Ground Crew, College Corner Fire, Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Oxford Fire & EMS, Gasper Township Fire & EMS, Monroe Fire and EMS, Oxford Township Police Department and the Camden Police Department.

The crash remains under investigation by the Preble County Sheriff’s Office.
