Opt-out letters mailed to Brookville citizens

BROOKVILLE — City manager Sonja Keaton announced residents and small business owners, who currently have AES as their electric supplier, should have received or will soon receive a letter in the mail with instructions on how to opt-out if they prefer to remain with AES and do not want to participate in the city’s electric aggregation program.

“Opt-out letters will only be sent to eligible customers if their current generation supplier is AES,” Keaton said.

The opt-out letters are being sent after Brookville, along with the other communities enrolled in the the Miami Valley Cable Council’s aggregation program, approved a 28-month contract with Energy Harbor, of Akron, Ohio, as the program’s electric supplier.

The rate from Energy Harbor is .0657 cents per kilowatt hour.

The rate will be effective beginning Sept. 1 and continue through December of 2025 for Brookville residents and small commercial customers, if they currently have AES as their supplier.

“For comparison purposes, the AES rate is currently 10.8 cents per kilowatt hour,” Keaton said.

“So over the course of the first year an average residential customer enrolled in the Miami Valley Communications Council electric aggregation program will realize a savings of approximately $350 over what they would have paid had they remained with AES,” Keaton added.

Residents or small business owners who do not want to participate in the aggregation program, must complete one of the following by the opt-out deadline of Friday, July 21:

• mail: return the enclosed opt-out reply form

• telephone: call Energy Harbor at (866) 636-3749 to opt-out over the phone

• web: enter your 10-digit opt-out code on line at energyharbor.com/opt-out

Following the opt-out deadline, future bills will reflect the Energy Harbor price of 6.57 cents per kilowatt hour upon the next available meter read date, which may take up to 30-45 days.

If residents or small business owners are not currently receiving electric generation from Energy Harbor, AES will send a letter confirming your participation.

To become a member of Brookville’s electric aggregation program, residents and small business owners don’t need to take any action when the letter arrives.

There is no cost for enrollment and there is no switching fee.

Residents and small business owners who choose to leave the program at any time may do so without being charged an early termination or cancellation fee.

Keaton noted three open houses are planned to answer residents’ questions about the aggregation program.

The dates and locations are:

• July 13 (6-8 p.m.): Meadowbrook of Clayton Clubhouse, 6001 Salem Avenue, Clayton

• July 17 (6-8 p.m.): Charles Lathrem Senior Center, 2900 Glengarry Drive, Kettering

• July 18 (5-7 p.m.): Sinclair Community College (Centerville campus), 5800 Clyo Road, Centerville

Residents and small business owners who have any other questions, may call Energy Harbor at (866) 636-3749 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or visit Energy Harbor’s FAQs located at: www.energyharbor.com/communltyaggregation.

Keaton also announced the MVCC sent out a request for proposals to suppliers for an opt-out natural gas aggregation program.

“Proposals are due back to the MVCC by July 20,” Keaton said.
