SIDNEY — During the first scrimmage of the 2023 football season Northmont traveled to Sidney on Saturday morning and turned in a strong performance.
The Thunderbolts scored five touchdowns while limiting the Yellow Jackets to one TD.
Two-a-day practice began on Monday, July 31. The scrimmage marked the end of the first week of practice for both teams.
Both teams started the scrimmage with two possessions each consisting of seven plays. Both squads got three possessions of normal down-and-distance play starting at their own 35 yard line.
Later in the scrimmage both had possessions starting at their opponent’s 30 and 12 yard line. There were also portions of the scrimmage for punts, kickoffs, extra points, and field goals.
Northmont will host Piqua in the second scrimmage of the season this Friday at 7 p.m. The Thunderbolts open regular season play Aug. 18 with a non-conference game at Butler. All regular season games start at 7 p.m.
The Thunderbolts finished 5-5 last season in the Greater Western Ohio Conference while the Aviators posted a 3-7 mark in the Miami Valley League.
Meet the Team Night
At halftime of the Piqua scrimmage, Northmont will be announcing all of its fall sports teams on the field. The event will be $5. Tickets can be purchased online ahead of time for $5 (which includes all service fees and charges), or there will be a cash gate available as well.
