Northmont players qualify for district

TROY — Four Northmont tennis players, two in singles and one doubles team, have advanced to the district tournament, which will be played Thursday and Saturday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason. In the event of rain, tournament play will be held Friday and Sunday.

No. 2 seed Lily Braswell and No. 3 seed Erin Kelsey both won all of their matches in straight sets at the Troy sectional to wind up facing each other in the semifinals.

Braswell defeated Kelsey to advance to the finals. Braswell placed second overall after losing in the finals to No. 1 seed Natalie Schoenherr of Butler.

Kelsey placed fourth in singles after losing to No. 4 seed Hannah Faulkner of Butler in the consolation bracket.

All four players qualified for district play. Braswell will face Sofia Tomlin of Springboro, who placed third in the Centerville sectional, in the first round at district.

Kelsey will play Sarah Clark of Turpin who took 1st place in the Cincinnati sectional.

Schoenherr will play Sophie Jovanov of Miamisburg who placed fourth at the Centerville sectional.

Faulkner will face Morgan Lint of Oak Hills who placed second in the Cincinnati sectional.

In doubles play Kennedi Robinson and Makayla Hibbard defeated Casey Rogers and Gwen Turnbull of Troy in the sectional semifinals.

In the finals Robinson and Hibbard placed second overall after losing to the Troy doubles team of Elizabeth Niemi and Nina Short.

At district Robinson and Hibbard will face Irisa Poompanit and Perasa Poompanit of Walnut Hills, who placed third in the Cincinnati sectional.

Niemi and Short will play Abigail Price and Reagan Gilbert of Lakota West in the first round at district. Price and Gilbert placed fourth in the Cincinnati sectional.
