Season ends for Shawnee with loss in sectional final

BROOKVILLE — Preble Shawnee’s volleyball team had its 11-match winning streak and season come to an end in the Division III sectional final last weekend.

The Arrows, the No. 7 seed, fell to top-seed West Liberty-Salem in straight sets 25-20, 25-15, 25-19 on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Brookville High School.

Shawnee ends the season with an 18-6 overall record.

Against WL-S, senior Kahlen Kulms led the way with eight kills and six blocks. She finished the season with 237 kills and 70 blocks.

Senior Bella Agee had 17 assists and four kills. She ended the season with 599 assists and 110 kills.

Senior Korrie Woodard finished with 21 digs to lead the team, while junior Caylee Hatmaker added three blocks.

In the first round, Shawnee defeated No. 11 seed Dayton Christian in straight sets 25-17, 25-15, 25-15 on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Kulms led the way with nine kills and four blocks.

Sophomore Sallie Montgomery added nine kills and nine digs.

Agee handed out 29 assists, while Hatmaker added seven kills.

Woodard finished with 19 digs and senior Delaney Klapper contributed five kills, nine digs and 23 service points.

During the 11-match winning streak, which included beating rival Eaton and winning the Western Ohio Athletic Conference, Shawnee was only pushed to four sets twice. The other nine wins all came in straight sets.
