Lopez qualifies for state cross country meet

TROY — Northmont freshman Dominic Lopez qualified for the Division I Ohio High School Athletic Association state cross country championship with a strong performance at the Division I, Region IV meet Saturday in Troy.

Lopez crossed the finish line in 15:57.40 to place 21st overall. He was the lone Northmont boys runner to qualify for the regional meet.

“Dom ran lights out, setting a new personal best and placing 21st overall, qualifying for the state meet this Saturday,” said Northmont coach Joe Barnes.

Lopez will run in the Division I race at 2:45 p.m. this Saturday at Fortress Obetz.

Sophomore Landon Kimmel of Tippecanoe took 1st place with a time of 15:06.0.

The entire Northmont girls team qualified for the regional meet but did not advance to state finishing 15th out of 17 teams.

Freshman Makenna Long finished 30th in the field of 133 runners with a time of 19:36.90.

Senior Amelia Brown finished 81st in 20:51.30. Sophomore Jazlen Simpson was 93rd in 21:04.80. Freshman Addison Brown finished 98th in 21:08.20.

Junior Briana Pressel finished 103rd in 21:15.80. Senior Libbi Mergler finished 122nd in 22:04.00. Lilia Lopez finished 131st in 22:43.20.
