T’bolt swimmers win season opener

MIAMI COUNTY — On Friday the Northmont girls and boys swim teams competed at the Miami County YMCA against Tipp City, Miami East, and Middletown. The Thunderbolts came out on top during their season opener.

The girls team won with a score of 96 points whereas Tipp City scored 76, Miami East scored 32, and Middletown scored 12.

Some highlights of the Lady Bolts were first place finisher and captain Macy Fitzwater in the 50 free coming in at a 29.99. Freshman, Abigail Weeks, won the 100 fly at a time of 1:10.05 and the 100 free at 1:07.01. Junior, Adi Lowe led the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 1:11.28.

The women won both the 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle relays with members consisting of Abigail Weeks, Adi Lowe, Abby Young, and Macy Fitzwater. The girls’ swimmer of the week was Abby Young who had two outstanding finishes and times in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, where she finished second in both events.

The boys team also took 1st place scoring 105 points to Tipp City’s 46, Miami East’s 15, and Middletown’s 3. Leading the charge, Team Captain Jerrin Dale won the 200 freestyle with a 1:54.81 and 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:02.65.

Sophomore Javier Pfeiler won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.02 and 100 freestyle with a time of 51.72. Co-team Captain, Harrison Davis won the 100 backstroke coming in at a 1:11.12. The 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle relays won both their events and was composed of team members Jerrin Dale, Javier Pfeiler, Harrison Davis, and Logan Suchland.

The 200 Freestyle relay of Alex Pfeiler, Justin Hall, Kalib Swafford, and CJ Ketcham also came out on top with a time of 2:02.68. Boys’ swimmer of the week was Alex Pfeiler, who had three personal best times in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 500 freestyle.

The T’bolts will be back in the pool on Saturday, Dec. 9 to compete against Troy High School at the Miami County YMCA.
